Don't Be Overwhelmed by Your To Do List

(My famous To Do Book!  This, along with my calendar/planner, goes with me everywhere.)

I am often told I am such an organized person. It’s true, I am! (you should see my wedding binder! ) I joke that I have a list of all my lists. (I don’t, really, but I often think that it wouldn’t be a bad idea if I did!)

Sometimes I plan to a fault. Sometimes I use it as a procrastination method – I will make lists and plan and then never quite make it to the actual “doing” part of the “to do.”

I have changed that pattern this year. The first thing that helped was my “To Do Book.” I wrote about it before. I was inspired by Goddess Leonie to create one. I wasn’t sure how it would work out because I actually usually prefer to type as opposed to writing by hand, but I have found my book to be the best tool for listing my to dos!

My lists tend to be a little overwhelming. Maybe yours are, too. Instead of getting overwhelmed, prioritize. This is how I prioritize, and it may help you, too.

The order in which I accomplish things:

  1. Customer orders and/or concerns. If I have orders to fill or ship, or questions to answer, I always do these first. They don’t even usually make it to my to do list because I take care of them right away.
  2. Date sensitive items. For example, I’m going away for several days to work on wedding preparations with my mom. So, although there are certain things I might prefer to be working on, I have to get ready for my trip. I have to gather up all the supplies I need for the stuff we are making, pack my sewing machine, make sure I have clean clothes to pack, etc. I really have a fun project that I want to work on for my blog, but it can’t happen until I know I’m ready for my trip.
  3.  Whatever is going to help my business the most. Of course, you’ll need to have a clear plan and end goal in mind. (Try Tara Swiger’s map for that! I did and it has helped me significantly!)
  4. Things I don’t want to do. Sometimes I bump this up to #3 because I know I’ll feel better once I accomplish the thing that I have been putting off. Anything having to do with my new website is here. I feel completely overwhelmed by learning how to use wordpress, but I know it will be nicer and I know that I can do it. I get scared and do something else. (Or find some other way to procrastinate like, Pinterest!) Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes skipping the thing you don’t want to do will actually be fine. Sometimes it works itself out. Sometimes you shouldn’t have been doing it in the first place. But there are definitely times you should be doing something you don’t want to do.
  5.  Other stuff.
Usually, I deal with customer orders and questions first and then check my calendar for deadlines.

Once that I done, I either try to tackle something that has been on my list for a while that I have to force myself to do, or do something that I believe will push my business forward.

Some days you’ll only get as far as #1. Some days you’ll have to skip #1 to #2, but only do that one day.
Some days it’s better to start of #4 for a set amount of time and then move on to #1.

How do you prioritize?

Book Review: Little Bee by Chris Cleave

I just finished reading Little Bee by Chris Cleave.

I am like this with a lot of books, but I really didn't want this one to end.  I wanted to follow along with each of the characters and follow them for the rest of their lives.

This is a novel full of truths, set in the United Kingdom, but can easily translate for the United States.

It is a beautiful story of 2 woman who meet and then their lives intersection again 2 years later.  I know that description is so generic and this story is anything but generic!!  But, I simply will not tell you anymore or else it will ruin the book.  Do not ruin the book by reading the reviews on amazon.  Also, the blurb about the book says that the book is funny and the scene on the African beach is horrific.  Both are true, in a sense.  This book is not a riot.  There are moments in it that may be funny, but this would be a drama if it were a movie, not a comedy.

The beauty is in how the story unfolds, and I don't want to take that from you.  The book is captivating and well written.

I must say, the reason that I even picked up the book to begin with is because of the mysterious blurb on the back.  I figured it was a gimmick, but it ended up that it is so true!  I don't want to ruin the book by telling you too much.

I will say I highly recommend this captivating book and that you will not be able to put it down once you start!

{I just added a page to my blog called "books I love"!  More will be added soon!}

Ideas for Reusing and Recycling books

Just think about all the books you have read in your life.  If you kept them all...well, you would probably end up on "Hoarders."  I had a lot of books, but I have really scaled down.  I had a yard sale and sold a bunch, then gave the rest away.

If you have too many books and you don't know what to do, here are some ways to reuse or recycle them, and even have some fun or make some money in the process:

1.  Sell them on eBay or Amazon.
2.  Give them to your local library.
3.  Donate them to a thrift shop.
4. Place them on consignment in your local consignment shop.  They take a percentage of the sale.
5.  Host a book swap party.  (Although, you really won't be losing any books this way....just trading for different books!)
6.  Put them on Freecycle
7.  Check out Bookmooch.  Basically, you offer books for people to buy for points.  Then, you use those points to get other books.
8.  Donate them to a hospice or hospital
9.  Check out Bookcrossing.  Set your book free on a bench or in a bus, etc. and then you can track your book's journey on this website.
10.  If they are not readable, or have been damaged, use them to make craft projects!  (More ideas on this later this week!)

Yard Sale - Avon - Jewelry Sale

West Reading Fall Festival, originally uploaded by B.B. Bellezza.
I know, I have been slacking on the blog here. I sincerely intend to fix that!

In the meantime, I want to make sure you all know that this weekend is the Belair Neighborhood (Manheim Township, Lancaster, PA) Yard Sale. Each year it is huge. People have yard sales, bake sales, lots of food. Traffic is usually a little bit crazy, but I promise you it's worth it!

In addition to my yard sale, I'll be setting up my jewelry stand (or at least a portion of it) as well as an Avon stand! (If you missed it, I started selling Avon!) If you are in the area, please stop by and see us. We have tons of books and movies, some games, and some other stuff!

7 am - ? (And I assure you, I will not be ready before 7 am, so don't stop by for early sales! lol)

Directions: Going North on Fruitville Pike, take a Left onto Candlewyck Road. Go past Bucher Elementary and around the turn....you will see my green tent there when you are going around the turn (I'll be on the Left side).

See you there!

250th post! New Items and Custom Orders

How about some cake in celebration of my 250th post! It seems kind of impossible that I have written that many posts, yet, it is true. Yay!

Today I have spent the day photographing, editing, listing, going to appointments that I was dreading (but were fine), relisting and preparing listings. You can see the efforts of my work in my Etsy Shop and eBay store. There are tons of Game Tile Pendants in both! (While I feel relieved to have all these posted, I still have other categories of jewelry to list!)

There are also more used books listed in my shop and some of my pendants are on auction, which is always fun. Also this cool necklace is up for grabs on eBay as well.

This necklace is made from a rescued broken belt and vintage brass chain. It is adjustable so you could wear it as a choker or as a princess length necklace.

Custom Order Game Tile Pendants
I have had a couple requests for custom game tile pendants lately, which is wonderful.

If you would like to order a custom domino tile or scrabble tile pendant, just let me know. If you would like one in time for Christmas, now is probably the time to ask me as things get pretty wild around the holidays. Plus, I source the paper for my pendants from all different sources, and nowhere that I can just call up and order. I dig through vintage books and any other paper that I can find. For example if you would like a particular sport or activity themed pendant, I can dig through my paper stash to see what I have or keep my eyes open for such an image. It could take me a little while to come up with the actual pendant.

If you have an image that you would like afixed to a scrabble or domino pendant, contact me and I will tell you where to mail it. I can't accept images digitally at the moment because I don't have a decent printer nor do I know how to size images to get them to fit. If you can do that and give me the physical image, awesome. If not, I can't do it right now, but I will be looking into it in the future.

Any questions, just email me at BBBellezza@hotmail.com

Books, Books and more Books

Hey everyone!

I have tons of books listed on eBay right now. Check out my store and see if there is something you like! I will be adding them here and there throughout the week and into the future. I sort of feel like I am swimming in books right now.

Also, a reminder that I have a sale running in my Etsy Shop right now! See this post for more information about that.

I am gearing up for a show this weekend that will cater to some college students, so I am making lots of school color jewelry. I will be introducing a new "School Spirit" line in my Etsy Shop this weekend. This line will allow you to order customized jewelry in your school's colors so you can show your school spirit.

Hope you are all having a great week!

P.S. Thrifty Tuesday Travel Tips will have to be put off yet again. I will continue those posts sometime in the future when I am a little bit less busy ...I hope to add lots of photos to my flickr photostream soon (tomorrow night?) Sorry!

Buy Books for Charity!

I have just lists a lot, I mean A LOT, of books on half.com. My shop is here: http://shops.half.ebay.com/kimberliejo75

If you love Mary Higgins Clark, you are in for a treat!!!

I have decided that all the proceeds from certain books will be going to 2 different charities. One will be Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Breast Cancer). The other one has yet to be determined. The Susan G. Komen charity has been picked in honor of a dear friend of my mother's, well, and a woman who has been very intrumental throughout my entire life, who I also hold very dear to my heart. The other charity is to be picked by my mother, who I love with my whole heart. I will let you know what charity when it is picked. I am sure it will be another great one!

So, buy up!

The books have been predetermined because they have been given to me by these lovely ladies. Basically, if you buy a Mary Higgins Clark book or James Patterson book, your purchase money will be donated to the Susan G. Komen charity. There are other books involved, too. Basically all of the Left Behind series, Angel books and other religous books proceeds will be going to my mother's charity. (And some other books, too!)

Thanks for all your support and for your support for these great causes!

Love,
Kim

Feedback and Books

I was just reading through some new feedback I received from customers on eBay, and it honestly brought a tear to my eye. I know I am a very emotional person generally speaking, but really, my customers are the best!

Speaking of which, if you all are interested, I have been doing lots of used book auctions lately (my first love and the first thing I started selling on eBay....after my beloved silver saxophone. I sold that first to pay my rent years ago.)

My eBay store is here and you can just click on the book category on the left to find all of the book auctions. I am going to be listing more this weekend, too. And some other random stuff I have.

Book Auctions

I also sell used books on half.com. My shop is here.

I also hope to have another book review this weekend. I am reading The Secret. I haven't gotten too far, but I should have plenty of time for reading this weekend. I think....

Or, I could get all caught up in making a skirt like I did last night! I am excited. I like it...I don't love it, but it's the first article of clothing I have made for myself.
