Architectural Salvage

I love old, rusty, dirty pieces.  People throw this stuff away all the time - they are renovating their homes and either don't think about it or don't think it's worth it to save.

But it's definitely worth it to save these pieces.

Use them to hold up shelves or use larger ones for cabinets or heavy things.

I find beauty and inspiration in these pieces.

These are shelf brackets.  They come in all kinds of sizes and shapes.  Imagine how gorgeous your shelves would be held from these brackets!

(By the way, this particular set of brackets are available at BUiLDiNG CHARACTER in downtown Lancaster, PA)

Help keep stuff out of the landfill! Buy B.B. Bellezza recycled jewelry.

Peek Through the Keyhole

Sometimes when I am designing a piece, my heart starts to race and I can't wait to see it completed. I go to bed that night and can't wait to get up in the morning to see it again and touch it and maybe make another one.

I realized the last time this happened (which was a couple of days ago on this piece) that it feels a lot like falling in love.

I don't always feel this way about a piece. I always really love each piece I make, but maybe I am not smitten.
This piece uses 2 keyhole covers (escutcheons) and the innards of a watch. Don't worry, I didn't abuse a perfectly good watch, these were watches that were destined to remain un-admired the rest of their short lives. I gave them new life!

You can see the watch parts from each side of the piece by peeking through the keyhole. The piece is nice and long on brass chain.

I made a total of 4 of these (and yes I kept one for myself!) and each is slightly different. This is the only one with the winder on the side still.

This one will be listed in my Etsy Shop. There will also be one at my stand at Building Character, and another is destined for the Hodge Podgery. (Which I am very late in getting my things out to, but I am extremely thrilled and excited for the opening!)

The keyhole covers themselves are from Building Character. I think I bought all of the brass ones they had. If I can get more, I am sure I will make more....but you can never tell with these sorts of designs.

From Trash to Treasure

You may remember this typewriter from my previous post. My friend Tony from BUiLDiNG CHARACTER found it and gave it to me.

With a little soap, water and a lot of effort, the keys cleaned up nicely and made lovely rings. These two are listed in my Etsy Shop now. A large selection is available at my booth at BUiLDiNG CHARACTER as well.

The Mystery Typewriter and Where I will be this weekend

Typewriter - Smith Corona, originally uploaded by B.B. Bellezza.

Well, the mystery has been solved, actually. And it was sort of just who I would have suspected.

My pal Tony at BUiLDiNG CHARACTER rescued this beauty from the trash. Doesn't look much like a beauty in this photo, does it?

Well, once I popped all of the keys off and cleaned them up, they turned out really nice. Look for some typewriter jewelry in the future! I can't wait to use these keys.

And make sure you check out my salvaging pals at BUiLDiNG CHARACTER!

Which reminds me,

I will be at my booth at BUiLDiNG CHARACTER tonight for Music Friday in downtown Lancaster, PA. (342 North Queen Street)

Trash and Glory + Katie Becker will be performing live starting at 6 pm tonight.
