Map Week Day 4: No Sew Map Bunting

No Sew Map Bunting Tutorial

Materials and Tools:
  • Old map
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher
Step #1

Open up your map and cut out a smaller manageable size.

Step #2

Cut the map into triangles.  My triangles are about 3 1/2 inches long, and I cut out 12 of them.  This was large enough to go across my window.  You can make them larger or smaller based on where you will be using the bunting.

Step #3

Use the hole puncher to punch 2 holes in each of the triangles.

Step #4
Thread the ribbon through the holes in the triangles.

Step #5

Hang your bunting and enjoy!

Where to find maps to use in crafts

Since we're crafting with maps this week for Map Week, you probably are wondering where to find old maps, right?

Here are some ideas where to find maps:
  • Look for atlases at thrift stores (Goodwill or Salvation Army)
  • You can find National Geographic magazines all over and they often have maps;
  • People have old maps that are no longer pertinent.  Just let everyone know you're looking for them;
  • Yard sales;
  • My favorite store:  Lancaster Creative Reuse.  (Located in Lancaster, PA.  You can also find other Reuse stores around the country on their website.)
If you start telling people you want old maps, you'll start finding them all over the place!

Ready to get started on a map craft project, check out Map Week Day 1.

Next week is Map Week here on the blog!!

What does that mean?

  • New map related jewelry!
  • Map related tutorials
  • And, a craft-along to make a travel journal!

Each day check in for the next step to make your travel journal.  You can do it at night after work.  I'm breaking it up into 7 easy steps!

If you want to get your supplies ready this weekend, here's a list of what you'll need to get started for the travel journal :
  • paper bags (the small ones are best, but try to recycled what you have around!  Or you can purchase a pack of the size you'd use for packing a lunch.  You'll need as many as the pages you'll want, and you'll want an even number.)
  • tacky glue
  • Glue sticks
  • Old maps
  • Scissors
  • Other paper to use to embellish your journal
  • Ribbon and other embellishments.
Make sure to check in for Day 1 on Monday for the Travel Journal Craft-a-long and for Day 1 of Map Week!  See you then!
